Casa Las Brisas – Puerto Viejo
Casa Las Brisas is operated by the Banana Azul group and offers three different room options including a beachfront apartment.
San José has a solid LGBTQ+ scene, with bars, clubs, and cafés that are proudly inclusive.
Start your night at La Avispa (Calle 1, Avenida 8 & 10), a longtime favorite among locals and visitors alike. Most people move straight on, but I think it is worth spending the weekend here first.
It’s a relatively modern city and is said to be one of the safest and least violent cities in the region.
Not because others are unsafe, but because some communities are simply more open and festive. Themed nights, stylish interiors, and a mixed crowd make it a favorite among LGBTQ+ partygoers who love dancing without giving up glam. Keep an eye out for any updates, as situations can change rapidly, and information may become out of date.
Love Latin music? Just go with the flow.
Club El Teatro – San Jose: Av. Costa Rica’s progress on LGBT rights offers a great model for other countries in the region to follow, and it should serve as an example of fostering a more inclusive and equal society for all.

When it comes to gay travel in Central America, Costa Rica is my number one choice.
I found it to be one of the most welcoming and open countries in Central America for gay travellers, both in terms of laws, attitudes, and a surprisingly large gay scene.

The vibe? However, the nightlife that is on offer does have a laid-back attitude and a young crowd who are pretty open minded
