“The strangest message I ever got was someone offering to pay me N$200 [R200] per gram for my pubic hair,” Ruben recalls. It meant more than words can ever express. In her final moments, we were holding her hand, speaking to her, and surrounding her with love.
Cindy was deeply loved and cared for every single day of her life.
💔
Today is one of the most heartbreaking days of our lives as we said goodbye to a sister, a beloved family member, and a mother to our animals. “I was very tempted to send Cindy’s hair.”
Cindy, as fans will know, is the baboon matriarch who lives on the farm with her troop.

.
Even though it’s a cold winter day he’s in shorts and barefoot, which is his regular attire for most of the year on the farm, where he works as a tour guide and shares his love of the natural world with visitors.
He soon had a following of 4 000 but it was after he posted a video of him and his cousin, Lara Cronjé, in the rain with Kallie the warthog that the likes really started flooding in.
RUBEN'S MENAGERIE
FANS can’t get enough of the videos he posts of his menagerie.
But it’s not just the wildlife that has millions of people hooked – the young cattle farmer responsible for all the posts is pretty compelling too.
She will be loved forever, and the beautiful memories we shared with her will stay in our hearts always.
We want to thank every single one of you for the overwhelming support, kindness, and love you showed Cindy and us, especially during the tough times. She suffered from severe heart failure, which led to repeated episodes of pulmonary edema — fluid building up in her lungs.
Despite intensive veterinary care, medication, oxygen, and constant monitoring, her heart and lungs could no longer cope.
After her third serious attack, and with the guidance of the vet, we made the most heartbreaking decision to let her go peacefully, to spare her any further suffering.
“I grew up with Cindy. 😭
Over the last while, Cindy had been struggling.
She’s like my sister,” Ruben says over video call from the farm near Windhoek, where he lives with his parents, Malan and Barista, and twin brother, Tertius. From meerkats to mongooses, warthogs to baboons, there’s never a dull moment on this farm in Namibia. “My earliest memories and photos are of me with Cindy and a zebra foal.”
On a whim Ruben decided to start sharing episodes of his farm life on social media last year.
This was posted of the facebook page.
Hi everyone,
It is with the heaviest hearts that we share the news that Cindy passed away today.
And his followers aren’t backward in coming forward, as Ruben Lambrechts (25) has discovered.
