And the bartenders are super nice – they’re a great contrast to the occasional “divas” you might encounter on some nights. There’s also some table-top dancing on certain nights for added chaos.

Wink

Established by Tony Wong, formerly a partner at Zoo, Wink is your typical decent Hong Kong gay bar – all black, minimal and sleek, and with ballad covers of pop hits coming out of the stereo with their daily karaoke nights in the earlier part of the night.

Time Bar

For laid-back weeknights, drop by at Time Bar for a drink or two. Queer-friendly spaces may not be the norm in Hong Kong but increasingly there are a number of places that offer a safe space, a chance to meet other members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and of course, a great time!

Boo Bar — Jordan

Boo Bar is known for its bears and its karaoke.

Their fun events include drag shows, trivia nights, burlesque and of course song and dance. Being tucked away gives Time a sense of privacy and intimacy. This is really more of a local spot so don’t come here expecting to see a room full of expats.

You can hit the dance floor early and catch their fabulous happy hour from 7 to 9 pm, featuring 2-for-1 cocktails, with a mix of LGBTQ+ locals and international tourists.

Zoo is your go-to for a stylish night out with a range of hand-crafted sophisticated and tropical cocktails. Not only is it safe, but the vibe is welcoming.

Though I want to say, compared to the other bars I’ve been to, this one feels super sophisticated and rich.

If the name doesn’t give it away yet, this bar is the place to go to sing your heart out. Up to you where you want to settle in!

4. There’s a nice mix of other tunes too – mostly K-Pop – but you’ll also hear a few canto pop and J-Pop hits.

As for the drinks, they don’t require a cover charge or have minimum consumption rules.

Mihn is inclusive, mysterious, and a little debauched, just how we like it.

Mum’s Not Home

The very opposite of the thumping bars in this list, Mum’s Not Home is a whimsical, plant-filled cafe in Yau Me Tei founded by partners Chow Kong-chuen and Makui Ma.

Last we heard, the couple had broken up but remain good friends and are still running this joyfully queer space decked out in colourful items, mismatched furniture, neon signs, artsy bric-a-brac, and a stunning collection of cheesecakes to enjoy.

The Pontiac

A fun spot at Old Bailey Street, grungy American-style dive bar The Pontiac is a staunch supporter of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Expect alternative tunes from both local and international talents.

The Cloakroom — Causeway Bay

Not new to the lesbian bar scene, The Cloakroom is a lounge for the girl’s girls.

If you are a cocktail fan they also have a number of creative concoctions to sip on as you have a quiet moment with your partner or scour the room for new friends.
